It should be noted that the pricing of government information in
electronic format has not been uniform within Statistics Canada nor
between federal departments.  The Interdepartmental Working Group
on Database Industry Support (IWGDIS) was formed in 1988 to
rationalize the release of federal government data in computer format.
The IWGDIS published a guide in 1992 for government <em>information
managers</em> about options for disseminating electronic databases.
This document, <cite>Disseminating Database Information:  A Quick
Primer for Government Managers</cite>, is a valuable summary of the
current framework by which pricing formulae are derived.<p>
