By comparison to the United States, the amount of funds allocated
for social science data collection in Canada is meager.  Underfunding
has meant that data simply have not been collected at frequent
enough intervals to permit monitoring significant aspects of Canadian
life, e.g. Canada remains one of the few industrialized countries not
to participate in the International Social Survey Program.
