Qualifications
To qualify as a student tutor, you must be a registered University of Saskatchewan student (full or part-time).
A minimum of two years of full-time university study in any discipline, while maintaining an average of 85% or higher in writing intensive courses in the last two years*.
Special training in the following areas is helpful but not required:
- Intercultural competencies
- Anti-racist educational theory
- Training in working with those who have English as an additional language
- Positive Space
- Mental health first aid
- Experience, knowledge, and/or understanding of Indigenous cultures and histories
- Written and spoken fluency in one or more languages besides English
- Training and experience in helping students with disabilities
- Successful completion of grammar and writing courses* such as the U of S course Interdisciplinary Studies 103.3.
*Interested applicants should contact the Writing Help Coordinator if they have questions regarding relevant coursework.

Duties and Skills
Duties
- Tutoring students in writing, online and/or face-to-face
- Working with diverse groups of students, from across the disciplines and at varying levels of skill and ability
- Attending training sessions regularly to deepen knowledge and upgrade skills
- Note: this is not an editing and proofreading position.
Skills
- Effective communication skills
- Proven time management skills
- Comfort working alone during evenings and weekends (note: not all shifts are during these times)
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to cope with diverse tasks and be adaptable
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to prioritize when deciding how to best help a student
The following are assets but are not requirements for this position:
- Familiarity with the University of Saskatchewan context.
- Experience working with students with disabilities.
- Experience working with students for whom English is an additional language.
- Ability to use positive motivation to help students who are having difficulty with writing.
- Multidisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary writing experience
- Multi-modal communication experience
Wage
Current USask student rates of pay apply.
Mandatory Training
Paid on-the-job training, workshops, and online modules are provided.
