Notes: | Transcript of a newspaper account which outlines the history of the Riel Resistance of 1885, starting with a description of the plight of the Métis in the North-West Territories during the early years of the 19th century. It then discusses the relationship between the 1885 Resistance and the 1869-1870 uprising. The biographical account of Louis Riel and his family tries to explain his call and mission. Finally, the author provides a narrative account of the key events such as the Duck Lake fight, the Frog Lake massacre, the destruction of Battleford and the Battle of Batoche. A number of primary sources have been recopied and included in the transcript. |
