| Notes: | A brief biographical account of Laurie's activities in western Canada at the time of the Riel Rebellion. In 1869 he arrived in Fort Garry and took charge of the "Nor'Wester" newspaper, which reported on the first rebellion. In 1878 he left for Battleford where he established the Herald. He remained there until his death in 1903. During the Rebellion of 1885 he alternated between military duties and the publication of his paper. |
