Notes: Patrick Gammie Laurie, publisher, editor, compositor and bookbinder, established the first newspaper in the North-West Territories, The Saskatchewan Herald. He edited the paper until his death in 1903. This article publishes a selection from his 1,497 pages of correspondence. The letters pertain to Laurie's activities, problems and policies relating to the publication of the Herald, and an assessment of the impact of the Resistance of 1885.
