| Notes: | Lalonde analyses the impact of the Resistance on settlers in the west. He argues that the Resistance had both beneficial and detrimental effects. In terms of benefits, it provided jobs for local teamsters, transporters and suppliers and helped speed up the completion of the CPR. On the other hand, many settlers left because of their fear of Indian attack. The ensuing publicity on the Resistance deterred immigration to the west during the 1880s and 1890s. |
