Title: A Poem by Louis Riel
Notes: While waiting for his trial to open, Riel began to write poetry with religious or political themes. The poem reproduced here was written on 8 June 1885 and addressed "To the Commanding Officer of the Mounted Police in Regina." It is Riel's plea to Supt. Deane to be allowed to write of his experiences so that his family will be able to raise money from the sale of his work.
