Title: | Louis Schmidt, patriarch of St. Louis |
Notes: | A biographical article about Louis Schmidt, a well-educated, articulate Métis who kept notes, memoirs and a diary for the period 1884-1934. Schmidt was associated with the Red River Resistance of 1869-1870, working with Riel to seek redress for the grievances of the Métis in Manitoba. Schmidt did not support Riel in the 1885 Resistance. Instead he was quite critical of Riel because he had become a "dangerous heretic manipulating the Métis." |
