| Notes: | Austin (1859-1949) enlisted in the 'H' Company of the Midland battalion in 1885. He kept a diary of his experiences as an ordinary soldier in the forces sent to suppress the 1885 Resistance. His company did not participate in the Battle of Batoche. Instead Austin recounts the drudgery of military service and guard duty in locations like Swift Current. |
