Author: Silver, A. I.
Title: The French-Canadian press and 1885
Notes: This article examines the change in attitude of the Québecois towards Louis Riel and the Métis. At first they condemned the 1885 Resistance and believed it had to be suppressed. However, after reading reports in the Quebec newspapers that the Resistance had provoked anti-French and anti-Catholic feelings in Ontario, the French Canadians started identifying with the Métis, as they had done during the 1869-70 Resistance.
