Call No.

"Village (PO 1903- ) northwest of Estevan on #39.
After John Macoun (1831-1920), explorer and naturalist who was sent by the Canadian government to study the prairies at about the same time Palliser was conducting his studies on behalf of the Royal Geographical Society and the Imperial government. Interestingly, while Palliser pronounced the southern prairies a desert, unfit for habitation, Macoun more realistically assessed its possibilities. Yet Palliser's name is plastered all over Saskatchewan's map, Macoun is honoured only here."
