"City (PO 1895- ) southeast of Regina on #13, #35 and #39, headquarters of the Rural Municipality(RM) of WEYBURN No. 67.
A particularly elusive name, it probably comes from a railway contractor who named the site after his brother-in-law. The often heard stories about a Scotsman coming to a fine "wee burn" are folklore. The crocus is omninpresent in Weyburn, a reference to the fictional town of CROCUS created by W.O. Mitchell for his 1950s radio series, "Jake and the Kid." Mitchell lived in Weyburn as a child and "Crocus" was heavly influenced by his memories of his time there." -from People Places courtesy of Bill Barry |
