Service update

Please note that there will be ongoing construction near the University Archives and Special Collections reading room. While our front door is accessible please be aware there may be construction workers in the area and that there may be noise.

Though our front door is available, we may not be able to accomodate all walk-in appointments. Please book appointments ahead of time.

To book an appointment please fill out this form.

Material must be requested for retrieval in advance of your visit. Once we determine what material you want to look at, we will be in a better position to confirm your appointment. We may also be able to assist you without an appointment, through digitization of selected material.

Please note:

  • Space is limited.
  • We ask that you do not use hand sanitizer prior to using UASC materials, due to possible damage to rare materials.
  • Researchers are encouraged to self-monitor their health and reschedule appointments in the case of any illness.
  • Masks encouraged and are available for free in the reading room.

We continue to offer online reference services by providing digital copies of materials to our researchers. Please note that digitization may be limited by factors including the volume of your request, legal and other access restrictions, and research required to identify relevant material.

UASC can supplement the digitization service by providing you with copies of finding aids and assisting with identifying relevant collections for a future research visit.

Reach out to us at ua.sc@usask.ca to prepare for your visit and for other inquiries.

  • Our staff have expert knowledge of the collection and can make suggestions, email finding aids, and locate specific items of interest before you arrive.
  • When we have a chance to discuss your research goals prior to your visit we can pull materials and have them ready for your arrival.
  • We can make referrals to other institutions which may have the information you need.

Reproduction

UASC does not lend material from our holdings. All materials must be viewed in the reading room.

Photocopies and scans can be provided. We are currently not charging for standard document scanning. However we reserve the right to charge for high volume scan requests or for multi-media scanning which may require outsourcing.

We cannot guarantee the quality of digital scans and are unable to make enhancements or adjustments to brightness, contrast, etc. Whenever possible, we aim to provide digital images in your requested format but we are limited by our equipment and software.

You are welcome to use a digital camera to take your own photographs of materials during your visit, subject to the limitations outlined below. We also provide a self-serve scanner for client use in the reading room.

For off-campus clients, photocopies of some published materials may be available through interlibrary loan. Contact your local library to arrange this.

Citing archival material

Many researchers are unsure how to cite materials they have found at UASC. Visit our research guide to learn about citing archival materials.

If you have questions about citing an item, contact us. We are happy to provide advice.
