Books

The University of Saskatchewan Library holds one of the largest collections of sexual diversity literature in Canada. The collection has been developed over the past forty years through purchases, donations and bequests. The library is grateful to the many individuals and organizations who have contributed in kind gifts and financial support.

To simplify access in browsing the book collection provided below are links to some of the most used Library of Congress subject headings. Click on each heading to see a list of subheadings or available books in the University of Saskatchewan Library assigned that subject. Clicking on each link in the list will take you to the book's record in the library catalogue. You may also search the catalogue yourself for books by word(s), title or author.

In 2010 the Library established the Neil Richards Collection of Sexual and Gender Diversity named in honor of former employee and retiree Neil Richards.  Containing rare and/or fragile titles and special subject collections this resource complements the Library's extensive circulating collections. Among the collection's strengths are holdings of LGBT periodicals, queer mystery and detective fiction, items of queer popular culture  and titles of both nonfiction and fiction  which predate the  beginning of the modern  Gay Liberation Movement in 1969.  Access: material is fully catalogued and the records are accessible on the on-line catalogue.

Among the treasures of the Richards Collection is a large and growing cache of vintage pulp literature from the 1950s and 1960s. For an illustrated introduction to this resource see Passions Uncovered: Gay, Lesbian and Transgender Pulps.
