The Authorized Textbooks database provides a list of resources authorized by the Saskatchewan Department of Education for use in elementary and secondary schools from 1884-1992. This searchable database lists textbooks and other resources recommended for use in schools and for inclusion in school and public libraries. Prescribed resources were gleaned from a variety of archival sources including a thesis by Gerald A. Langley and textbook circulars published annually by the Department of Education.
At present, this database lists textbooks prescribed for teaching English/Language Arts, Social Sciences, and Science. Other subject areas will be added in the near future. Please note that not all resources listed in this database are available in the Education & Music Library’s Historical Textbook Collection.
