Abstract:
The Viet Cong (VC) have lost none of their aggressiveness in I Corps and have stepped up guerrilla warfare against the background of a main force unit invasion threat across the Demilitarized Zone (ZMD). As part of the program, attacks against Revolutionary Development (RD) teams have more than doubled during the first few months of this year. The political situation is within controllable limits. Public reaction has not crystallized but the potential exists for an increased anti-americanism and renewed struggle. The introduction of increased and sufficient Free World forces could normalize the situation and reverse the offensive. It remains to be seen whether 3500 more Marines in the 3rd Division area can stop VC aggression. At the moment the VC have the psychological initiative and much hard fighting can be anticipated.
