Abstract:
Romanian Prime Minister Maurer made a secret visit to Hanoi, 28 September to 1 October 1967. As of 11 October this visit was still being kept secret in Hanoi. The purpose of the visit was to persuade the Demrocratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) to change its hard attitude in looking for a solution to the Vietnam War. On 7 October, a Chinese delegation of high-ranking military officers arrived in Hanoi; this visit was also kept secret. There was speculation that this might have some connection to Maurer's earlier visit.
