Abstract:
The Situation in South Vietnam [political situation: Huong govt. is facing growing opposition; Buddhist leadership is moving openly to bring down the govt.; the Vietnamese Confederation of Labor (CTV) has called a one-day strike against Vimytex. Economic situation: typhoon damage has seriously affected transportation, power, and communications facilities; retail prices have risen. Military situation: Viet Cong activity has generally decreased; South Vietnamese operations have increased; manpower losses outweigh the increase of persons entering the army; weapons loss ratio favors the VC; province pacification activities have intensified. Third country developments: Crown Prince Sihanouk may have cancelled border negotiations.
