Abstract:
During July Viet Cong (VC) activities in Quang Tri province continued to center around rice collection and transport. VC military operations were on a small scale. Large units remain quiet, probably in preparation for a large-scale operation in the near future. Reports indicate that VC are preparing for anti-election operations and for the autumn-winter campaign. Losses in local VC units are being replaced more and more by North Vietnamese Army (NVA) troops, and NVA forces have moved further south in the Demilitarized Zone. Various reports of disciplinary measures taken against the people in VC-controlled areas indicate that the VC are faced with problems in population control.
