Abstract:
Huynh Van Lang, Saigon University economics professor, and Lieutenant Colonel Pham Ngoc Thao, currently assigned to the presidency, by 11 September 1963 had the support of four general officers and a unit commander in the Presidential Guard for their planned coup d'etat. Timing of the coup depended upon a favorable balance of supporting troops in the Saigon area. A secondary plan called for elimination of the Nhus through ambush when Madame Nhu returned from the airport.
