Abstract:
On 14 September 1963 an individual in contact with the Tuyen coup group said that the latter planned to assassinate President Diem, Ngo Dinh Nhu, and high-ranking army generals during one of their regular meeting held at Gia Long Palace. The Tuyen group allegedly had an individual in the Palace with the capability of detonating a demolition charge which would blow up the meeting room and its occupants. The coup action scheduled for 13 September did not take place because Nhu unexpectedly left town and did not return in time for the meeting on that day. The next meeting of Diem, Nhu, and the generals is scheduled for 20 September at which time the coup may be initiated.
