Abstract:
We are now facing a situation in which the Pathet Lao, supported by Viet Minh, are stepping up military pressure on non-communist forces in Laos. Primary focus of this pressure is in Central Laos where Viet Minh intervention has changed the situation from one of fairly good control of the Na Kay Plateau into a virtual route, not only of the original friendly forces holding this area but several friendly battalions sent in as reinforcements since the enemy push began. The Station accepts an absolute minimum of three new Vietnamese battalions from North Vietnam involved in this area; however, we believe the true figure is closer to five.
