Abstract:
The lull in fighting around Phnom Penh has continued during the past few days. Cambodian Army units conducting sweep operations southeast of the capital in the area between the Bassac and Mekong rivers have clashed with small Khmer insurgent elements, but no significant combat has been reported on either the northern and southern fronts. South Vietnamese President Nguyen Van Thieu apparently remains opposed to sending ethnic Cambodian trrops from South Vietnam to Cambodia at the present time. Political maneuvering and squabbling in Phnom Penh remain a threat to the stability of the government.
