Abstract:
This CIA Cable reviews the situation of the evacuation program carried out in Saigon on 28 April 1975. US Air Force cargo planes C-130 are now used in the airlift of people from Tan Son Nhut airfield. It is nticipated that the evacuation program can last just one to three more days. Ambassador Martin, however, is more optimistic and takes position that Minh negotiations with the other side could drag on for two to three weeks. DAO will close down evacuation when Tan Son nhut airfield comes under enemy artillery or rocket fires. General Cao Van Vien, Chair, South Vietnamese Joint General Staff, was already on US carrier. 950 Americans are still in Saigon. Problems of refugees on Phu Quoc Island are also discussed.
