Abstract:
Former Prime Minister Tran Van Huong has definitely decided to be a candidate for the presidency and has picked Mai Tho Truyen, a well-known Buddhist layman, to be his running mate. Militant Buddhist leader Thich Tri Quang had a hand in the selection of Truyen as Huong's running mate. Quang will not campaign publicly for the Huong slate but promised to endorse the slate. Huong has not decided definitely whom he will ask to be Prime Minister should he win the election, but his personal choice is General Duong Van Minh ("Big Minh"), who is currently residing in Europe. Nguyen Van Tuoi, publisher of the now defunct "Vietnam Guardian", has agreed to accept the post should Minh not be available.
