Abstract:
On 2 February 1967 two representatives of the militant Buddhist faction led by Thich Tri Quang visited Thich Tam Chau, leader of the moderate Buddhist faction, at the Gia Minh Pagoda, Saigon, for the purpose of exploring possibilities for reconciling the two factions. The militant emissaries were Thich Thien Hao, Commissioner for Finance of the Council of the Buddhist Institute, and Thich Tu Nhon. Both of these individuals are southerners who Tri Quang probably calculated would be more acceptable to Tam Chau than monks from Tri Quang's native Central Vietnam.
