Abstract:
General Nguyen Van Chieu expressed the following views: 1) South Vietnam will face many problems and domestic insecurity if Prime Minister Ky is elected president in the forthcoming election. 2) The US needs to discard its current "Search and Destroy" policy and replace it with "Clear and Hold" policy; the US past attempts to bring about a truce in Vietnam were preemptory and without consultation with Vietnamese leaders; as long as the US continues acting in a preemptory manner, an honorable truce in Vietnam will not be forthcoming.
