Citizendium's Goal - Can "New Rule" Make A Better Free Encyclopedia
Larry Sanger, co-founder of Wikipedia, has a new project, Citizendium. Citizendium is trying to create a better (more authoritative) encyclopedia and avoid some of the challenges Wikipedia has faced by requiring contributors to use their real names and provide "gentle expert oversight".
This is an opportunity to see how these new rules and processes encourage contributions or not, impact participation rates, and the authority of Citizenpedia.
How does this "gentle" oversight work?
Contributions will be monitored by constables. A "CZ Constable" is a volunteer who is required to have a bachelor's degree and be "at least 25 years old." These constables (Sanger is one of them) will have the authority to ban inappropriate contributors. (Wikipedia rival makes its debut, Candice Lombardi, CNET)
