Using Tag Clouds to Visualize Brands
Noah Brier released a new site called Brand Tags on Friday May 9. He had collected 77,000 tags in three days. Noah says the idea for the site came to him when he was preparing a presentation on branding and utility. What word comes to mind when you see a brand name? At the moment Noah has about 75 major brands listed.Brands are about perceptions. A strong brand can make it easy for consumers to know where to go to for what and have their expectations met.
Here are 4 scaled down tag clouds for Twitter, Yahoo, Google and Microsoft.

By reading the OCLC Report entitled The OCLC Perceptions of Libraries and Information Resources Report, we know that library's brand is "books" and more books. Are we comfortable with the brand being "just books"? If not, what do we want to be?
It would be wonderful to see a tag cloud like created by a library community and even more useful if we could break it down demographically and see if the library brand resonates differently with some constituencies.
