In memoriam Donald Rennie

In memoriam Donald Rennie

The Editorial Board is deeply saddened to learn of Donald Rennie's tragic death, November 24, 1995, in a car accident. Mr. Rennie's career spanned both the public and private sector. He began as a journalist with the Perth Courier of Ontario, and went on to become a journalist and editor with the Portage LaPrairie Daily Graphic in Manitoba. Later he returned to Ontario as a reporter, editor, producer, and anchorperson with CJOH Television of Ottawa, before moving on to public service.

Donald Rennie served in a number of progressively senior communications positions with the governments of Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan, as well as with the federal government. He always brought to his role a keen appreciation of the public's concerns, and was a strong advocate for the public's right to government information. His commitment to the public good in government communications, his concern that all citizens must enjoy fair and equitable access to government information, and his belief in the right of every citizen to be fully informed will be sorely missed.

The Editorial Board extend their deepest sympathies to his family, and to his colleagues at the Treasury Board Secretariat of Canada. His passing is a great loss to all who work to make government information freely accessible.
