There are a great many editorials, opinion pieces, and newsnotes of various length in
the popular press throughout the opening years of the century in relation to issues
of equality rights for the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgendered/queer community (e.g., items on
same-sex marriage and about sexual orientation inclusion in hate legislation). Only a sample
of these appear in the present list. With the items that were retrieved in index searches, the
tendency, as a broad generalization, was to include ones of substantial length and ones
which were given prominent display (for
