Memoirs — Liz Senecal

The Only Lesbian Couple in Town

thumbnailLiz Senecal is originally from Rosetown, Saskatchewan where she grew up in a farming family. Upon graduation from high school, Liz went on to the University of Saskatchewan to study Women & Gender Studies. During this time she discovered her passion for human rights, Queer rights, poverty, education and community responsibility. Liz enjoyed her post secondary education, volunteered frequently with the Pride Centre and the Women’s Centre on campus and eventually came to terms with her identity as a Queer woman.

After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan Liz worked with various non-profit organizations until finding a long term posting with the Avenue Community Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity (now OUTSaskatoon). During this time she worked from her heart at OUT, loving every minute of it. The ability to serve the community fulfilled many dream she had from university. Her time at OUTSaskatoon was a treasured time.

As it usually does, love changes everything. Upon meeting her beloved future wife, Liz moved from Saskatoon to Wynyard, Saskatchewan in 2016. Love often calls us to various places, therefore Liz moved and has been in Wynyard ever since.
