COMMISSION BEGINS DIALOGUE WITH NORTHERN COMMUNITIES
SASKATOON – This week marks the beginning of the
Commission on First Nations and Metis Peoples and Justice Reform’s dialogue with
communities in Northern Saskatchewan.
Public dialogues will be held in Meadow Lake, Beauval and La
Loche.
"This is an important step in our work and we are very anxious
to meet the people in these communities," Commission chair Willie Littlechild
said. "The Justice Reform Commission’s strategy is to be as open and
accommodating as possible and by visiting these communities, hearing what they
have to say about the justice system and discussing possible solutions to the
concerns that we know are out there, is critical."
Littlechild and the four members of the
Commission, Irene Fraser, Joe Quewezance, Glenda Cooney and Hugh Harradence will
be in Meadow Lake on Wednesday, Beauval on Thursday and La Loche on Friday.
A daylong community dialogue has been scheduled for each of
these communities.
"We have been told there is a very high level of interest in
this Commission among people in the North and we are looking forward to these
dialogues," added Littlechild.
A complete schedule for the next two-week’s dialogues
accompanies this release.
