SASKATOON - The Commission on First Nations and Métis Peoples and Justice Reform will be at Saskatchewan Native Theatre on Thursday, April 18.

The event will involve a performance of the Theatre's new play, The Alley, written by Maria Campbell, as well as a dialogue involving the members of the Commission and young people from Saskatchewan Native Theatre. Following the play, Commissioners and youth representatives will break into small groups to discuss two vital questions: What are the critical areas for reform of the justice system and what challenges should the Commission be aware of?

"This Commission is determined to hear the voices of young people as it goes about its work," said Willie Littlechild, Chair of the Justice Reform Commission. "We appreciate the invitation from Saskatchewan Native Theatre and are looking forward to hearing from the young participants."

Saskatchewan Native Theatre was established as a non-profit organization in 1999. Its mandate is to develop and produce performing arts initiatives and activities that educate people about and promote the richness and diversity of Aboriginal culture.

"We are very pleased that the Commission is coming to our Theatre for this important event," said Donna Heimbecker, general manager of Sask. Native Theatre Company. "Our production, The Alley, has much to say about issues affecting young Aboriginal people and we appreciate the opportunity to meet with the Commissioners."

Saskatchewan Native Theatre is located at 228 - 20th Street West in Saskatoon.
