Olio: An Unorganized Collection or Mixture of Various Things

October 2016

Curators: Stevie Horn and Neil Richards

Location: Ground Floor and Room 301, Murray Library

This display is intended to highlight the broad range of over 6,000 titles within the Neil Richards Collection of Sexual and Gender Diversity. The collection--one of the largest of its kind in Western Canada--features not only an astounding array of books on subjects of LGBTQA2 interest, but also ephemera, artifacts, and serials that reflect various aspects of Queer communities, and Queer lifestyles.

Visitors are invited to experience the variety of the Neil Richards Collection for Sexual and Gender Diversity through two sets of display cases on the ground floor of the Murray Library (by the Starbucks) and in Room 301 (the Archives and Special Collections Reading Room). These cases are chocablock with some of the most amusing, enchanting, rare, strange, and all-round queer items the collection has to offer sorted by texture, locale, size, and even haircolor.

The display has been put up in October to celebrate Coming Out Day (October 11) and in support of the USSU Pride Centre's Queerapalooza celebrations (October 11-15, 2016). We would also like to take this opportunity to relaunch our Saskatchewan Resources for Sexual and Gender Diversity website which has been expanded and updated. Three new links on the front page provide information on the way Sexual and Gender Diversity collections are being built, used, and promoted in Saskatchewan.
