The Illustrators

September - October 2017

"A picture is worth a thousand words” – is an English idiom.  It refers to the notion that a complex idea can be conveyed with just a single still image or that an image of a subject conveys its meaning or essence more effectively than a description does. (Wikipedia)

Through line, shadow and color, illustrators enhance storytelling by providing visual context for the ideas that the author wishes to communicate.  This exhibition focuses on illustrated work housed in the University of Saskatchewan’s Archives and Special Collections.  It includes examples ranging from medieval manuscripts to contemporary graphic novels.  Also included are award winning children’s storybooks, epic tales and poems, biblical stories, Victorian literature, Americana and comic books.

The exhibition runs through the end of October 2017.
