Abstract:
The recently noted expansion of North Vietnamese SAM defenses seems designed to add depth to already existing defenses in the vital Red River delta area. This expansion will probably continue as the North Vietnamese seek to establish the most effective arrangement of primary and alternate firing positions for their mobile SAM firing units. However, they still do not have enough missile battalions to provide adequate defense for the large area encompassed by Hanoi, Haiphong, and Thanh Hoa.
