September 2022 - January 2023

Location: Murray 301, UASC Reading Room

Curators: Lisa Shiffman, Lindsay Stolalko

Jack Shiffman was born on March 24, 1930 in Selkirk, MB. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba in 1953, his Dentistry degree from the University of Toronto in 1957, and became the first liscened oral surgeon in the province of Saskatchewan in 1970. He was involved with the Royal Canadian Dental Corps which stationed him at Camp Dundurn for a summer. While there he visited Saskatoon and fell in love with the canopy of trees over Spadina Crescent thus putting Saskatoon to the top of his list of where to set up his first dental practice. He enjoyed many years as a practicing oral surgeon and faculty member at the University of Saskatchewan in the College of Dentistry from the 1970's through the 1990's.

This display shows some mementos of Jack's life and work in dentistry, including Royal Canadian Dental Corps uniforms and uniform jewelry, some of his certifications, as well as some items from his practice in the CN Tower, Midtown Plaza.
